PwlTool is a set of password recovery tools. The main program (for now) is RePwl. This program will allow you to restore occasionally forgotten or lost logon password for Windows OSR2 and WIN'98. It also enables you to browse the passwords stored in PWL file (if, while entering a password, you tell Windows to save it, Windows saves a password in a PWL file). The Demo version can recover only 3-character-long passwords and has no dictionary search mode.
Please note: this version works with "new" PWL files (from Windows 95 OSR2 and Windows 98) only. It does not work with old PWL files from original Windows 95 and Windows 3.11. Next version will support old PWL files. It will be released in October 1998. Registered users will receive it for free (as well as all other future versions).
You can find here more details about Windows' PWL files.
The documentation on RePwl program is available here.
You should understand that password protection in Windows 95 OSR2 (unlike its early version) is good enough. So, if you have been using a really long password you have little chance to recover it. Estimate your chance here.
Prior to using the program please take a minute to read the license agreement.
